Reliable skimmer
 

New to the forum, and basically new to saltwater...

My wife and I have started a saltwater tank after purchasing a 75gallon setup off kijiji. We have invested in some live rock "apx 40#", also have some corals in there. We have a budjet lees airstone skimmer.........

I guess my question is. Does anyone out there have a nice reliable skimmer for sale?....
The lees is a hunk of junk..We need to get something alot better, mabey hang on back, but still willing to work towards the sump idea..

Your tank size is a tricky size for HOB skimmers....usually the HOB skimmers are rated UP TO 75 gallons only or less....and usually its ratings is for a very low stock tank..

Only one i can think of is like Aqua C Remora Pro:

Even though many may say the Aqua C Remora is quiet, to me its nothing but quiet...its quite loud due to the injection method, its effective, but louder...

Depending on your budget... the Deltec HOB skimmers are one of the best, but also $$:

Do you want to try a "in-tank" skimmer like the Tunze that are really RELIABLE... but they are a bit more $$ and are inside the tank. But a tank you size shouldn't be an issue for room in the tank.

I got the smaller Tunze 9002 in my small 20 gallon tank...and it doesn't take up too much room.

For 75 gallons you might look into the Tunze 9005, its really good and quiet as well:

I would suggest you steer clear of the Remoras. They are finicky, and have to be adjusted often. I also don't think they do much. The Deltecs are great. :)

I used an Aqua C Remora Pro for two years when I first started out in the hobby. Worked well for us, it did need adjusting every now and then but over all it was a decent skimmer.

My Remora Pro works awesome and I have never had to adjust it. Downside is it is loud as heck! You choose.

Well, another soon to be addict. If you have the room to put a sump under your tank I would, personally, advise doing so. It is a good place for a skimmer, heaters, to add water/chemicals... If it is not possible then the remora is (IMHO) a fine choice. I have one for now (at least until the DSB and ATS get established- then good bye skimmer!)

Have you elected to use a substrate or go bare bottom? Fish or coral? (Boy, am I full of questions.)
