Wanted-A pair of clowns (found)

wild caught OcellaRis ... found at aquarium enthusiasts

Edmonton Eskimo 04-14-2009 05:55 PM

just curious but why do they have to be wild caught? Captive bred are exactly the same.

paddyob 04-14-2009 06:20 PM

Nope

Tank bred are so inbred that they have bad stripes most of the time... even swim different. i had a couple and even coloring is nicer On wild . like a puppy mill.. tank bred are lower quality. and for the price you pay... vs what dealer pays is ridiculous. the mark up is insane. wild caught are usually about same price. my last ones were anyhow. never should have parted with them.

Consider how much it costs to airship boxes full of water. The landed cost of livestock is much more than the price you might see on some wholesale list.

Yup

I used to work in a shop... thats understood. but its still a higher quality animal.

Try buying from a private breeder who has wild caught parents? If you can't find WC yourself. I do agree that "many" CB clowns are low quality, but I have a hard time justifying buying WC when there is CB available. If you look for long enough you can usually find good quality CB. :)

Possible

I dont know of anyone breeding wild caught. hence the post ha ha. i would consider a "perfect" tank bred but just blinded by my old clowns. if you know what i mean.
