54 watt HO T5s in Calgary

I am likely hitting for Calgary tomorrow and will be looking for replacement bulbs. Which LFS carry a good selection of bulbs? Gold's is out because they are closed on Thursdays.
I reread the "Strictly T5" thread, and still have no idea what to buy, but from what my puny brain is able to absorb, I gather that pure actinics are not a good choice.

Red Coral should carry them, maybe give them a call before you head all the way over.

What is it you're trying to achieve? I absolutely heart the way John's (lobsterboy) tank looks, colours on all of his coral SPS and LPS as well as Zoas are incredible. Maybe shoot him or Doug (Fishytime) a PM and see what their bulb combo is.

picked up some Giesemann and Aqua-medics from Red Coral, not sure what other makes he carries.

I like the look of the tank in lorenz0's post, #34

These are ATIs, and since they are not available locally, is there other combinations of bulbs that would give that purple glow?

I have mainly softies now and a couple LPS.

Seen the picture of Jack's tank?

That looks very nice, but he didn't say which bulbs he was using.

its a nice tank but not mine. was actually posting it because of the interesting color choice the owner went for

was at red coral today buying a new bulb. I highly reccomend the KZ line up for bulbs (new generation, fiji purple, 10,000k) . The new generations are amazing in color. he also has aqua medic specials, GE pure actinic, GE midday, i think i saw aqua medic 10,000k

Decent selection to choose from. For sure your best bet in calgary. How many bulbs are you buying?

red coral also carries the kz's such as fiji purple. i use 2 glow units on my 25g. i use one giessman actinic plus, 1 fiji purple and 2 12k k daytimes. the two bulbs at the back are on first and off first. i feel the moving shadows give a better feeling of a moving sun. i use the blue and 1 daytime for the first light and fiji purple and daytime for last light.
