force spliting anemone
 

i've seen a few youtube vids of people fraging their anemone by simply snipping or cuting it with sissors or scalpel in half and even in quaters. as long as it includes part of the mouth and feet. but in all vids ive seen they had the whole anemone out of water.

my rbta has gotten so big i dont know what to do, about a foot when fully open. so this fragging thing popped up.
my question is can i just do a partial cut on the anemone while in the water and on rock, it may not be a complete cut because it is attached to my bottom rock and cant remove it. in hopes that it will complete the split on its own. maybe just make one cut from the mouth to its outer edge but would not be able to cut through to the foot because it is in a crack. wondering if this may work and force it to split?

How big of a problem is your bta's size?
What is your setup like?
Are you prepared to lose 1 or both of the splits?

it takes up too much space and touching my corals.

Mr Alberta did this a couple times....by involuntarily drop a rock on them :redface:

It looks like it might work, but it's not something I would do. I can't get my head around that...
makes me think of puppy mills for some reason.

As far as not being able to cut the anemone in half all the way because of the rocks, anemones have been able to recover from accidents with power heads, and having rocks dropped on them. I'm sure it would be able to complete the split on it's own.

i dont see how a living creature would not be in pain but i also see the theory behind it of not having to gather from the ocean anymore

well kinda the same thing when people frag their softies and lps i think unless they are not classified as creatures but plants.

I agree all things that alive will feel pain.
My GBTA split month after i moved a rock out of water for about 30 minutes when i was hunting for huge unicke(?) worm. Anemonie was still utached to the rock and on it's side in the bucket with no water.
I herd that anemonies will split if disturbed. jmtcw
