Chromis killed

I've got a 72gal FOWLR tank that I am currently stocking. I purchased a brittle starfish a few months ago and I suspect that he cought and killed one of the three chromis in the tank.

I was looking in the tank this evening and saw the starfish and three of my hermit crabs munching on him.

Is there anything I can do to prevent another one being eaten? Should I extract the starfish or is there something I could feed him to keep him from hunting?

I think you can stop the star from hunting by lowering the water temp. what kind of star is it?

I'm not sure of the exact name but it is a brittle star. It's red with black spots or bands. He is about 3/4" in diameter with arms about 3-4" long.

The temp is 28C. How will the temp effect him eating?

After searching for a couple of hours, I've decided that the star is an Ophiothrix fragilis.

I'm thinking of just feeding the guy a big hunk of meat every day to keep him satisfied

Another thought was to pull him out and cut him in two (2/3 and 1/3) in the hops that the 1/3 will regen into a smaller star and I can part with the regened larger one.

Any thoughts?
