RO/DI Question
 

Testing to figure out my ph and alk problems lead me to the RO/DI unit. Tap water read 7.9 ph and 9.5 dKh. After RO/DI the ph is less than 7.5 and Alk are not high enough too get a reading. Is this supposed to happen. If so how would you go about correcting the problem.

The idea behind using a RO/DI filter is to rid the water of all TDS (total dissolved solids.)
This water is deionied and should have nothing in it.
So you need a TDS meter to see if the filter is working.
]The water comming out should be crystal clear and a TDS reading close to 0. Now that you have good water, you will have to add salt, then test this water, add calcium and/or carbonates, depending on what is lacking

Add your salt and mix thoroughly.

Newly mixed saltwater has to build up a carbonate buffer through a chemical reaction with atmospheric carbon dioxide which takes a while. I mix after my water change and it sits until the next water change rarely do I have to do anything to my mix.
