calc. reactor

just about finished my diy react. i got from wendell. i can`t wait to have it up and running but i`ve got a couple more plumbing moves to make and it`s lift off. it looks really good like it`s made in a calc. react. factory. i`ll post again when it`s going. thanks again wendell.

up and running as of thurs. nite. it`s quieter than i thought even though i`m using a mag pump. i`m trying to dial it in to get the levels right alk. etc. i`m using a cheeseball alk test kit (hagen) and i don`t like the way it measures, (ppm) as aposed to dkh. any suggestions on kits would be great. i`m surprised at how fast the levels were effected, i thought it would take longer.

1 day short of a week and all looks good. The alk. level has been steady for 2 days now @ 11.76 and the calc. has been @ 400 which is pretty good but I would like it a little higher up to near 480 or so. I hope this is possible but I`m very happy so far. (can`t stop looking at it)

i cant wait to get a reactor up and running. wendel is helping me setup something aswell. thanks wendel!

gotta like those numbers though. 400 calcium is pretty good. dont go to high or you might precipitate.

sounds good though

excuse my ignorance, but what do you mean by precipitate? is that when it clouds? thanks

CHEAPREEF 06-13-2003 05:36 AM

Not so much cloud the tank, it'll start looking like snow on your LR.

450+ you run the risk of "precipitating". its when the dissolved Ca calcifies on everything or heaters, pumps, glass...

How much is your effluent in Mil/Min ? ... and what is the DKH of the effluent ?

Cheers

ree-fready 06-15-2003 06:12 AM

I haven`t figured out how many ml/min yet. It`s not a steady stream coming out but a fast drip that`s close to a light stream and as far as the dkh is concerned I just got a new test kit for that (salifert) as opposed to my old hagen. The ph of the effluent as of a day and a half ago was right around 7. I would like to get that down lower but I want to make sure that I don`t change things too fast in case I make a mistake. I`ll let you know what the dkh is and ml/min maybe tommorrow if I get time to do it, company is coming over.
