Setting up new marine tank....question re: coral types
Just in the process of setting up my 150 gallon tank. For the more novice marine aquariest, would you recommend soft, LPS or SPS corals. Have T5 HO lights and unsure if these are ok with any of these corals. Also, any upside or downsides to any of these? Any opinions are appreciated.

Most soft and LPS are more forgiving and might be a better choice for you at this point. Have a look at some of the different types of corals availabe and decide on what it is that you want to keep. http://liveaquaria.com/product/aquar...lies.cfm?c=597
With enough T5 you can keep anything up to a certain depth. Check out this guys all T5 tank: http://reefkeeping.com/issues/2008-07/totm/index.php |
Go slow & start with some easy to keep softy & LPS frags from other reefers' tanks. These are the hardiest & most likely to survive. As you gain experience, then you can invest in nicer, more expensive corals from the LFS. Frags are an economical & environmentally friendly way to get your "feet wet" in reef keeping without killing off specimens collected wild from the tropical reefs. Any tank-raised frag should be reasonably to extremely hardy.
