lookin for info on my ts. They closed up about two weeks ago and have not opened since...i know they do things in their own way but how does one tell if they have died??? they seem to bit kinda hardish and not really as full as they once were... all levels and flow is fine...frogspawn, xenia and everything else seek ok, just my toadstools....:help: please

they may just be getting ready to shed. give it some time.

My 3 toadstools will close up, sometimes for quite a while, while they are shedding. I wouldn't get too concerned right now, unless they start "disintegrating". Most likely, they will start to shed their outershell, and then come back fine. Have you seen any "shed" coming off of them?

I have toad stools, and just put stuff in for Phosfates. Does that hurt them??

sharuq1 12-22-2008 03:35 AM

If I remember right, I think that the Seachem Phosguard has aluminum or some chemical in it that toadstools aren't fond of. Try removing it and see if it perks up in a bit. Adding some carbon couldn't hurt either. Could also be it is shedding or there is some chemical warfare going on.... Mine goes through a week every once in a while when it shrivels up and looks like absolutely dreadful, like it is going to die then it comes back looking better than ever for no apparent reason.
