Too many Feather Dusters?
Hello all..
Okay well my tank is doing really well and the GSP's that I got from Beverly are growing (I think that is so cool!!) Any way my question is that I am getting several feather dusters growing on my live rock. I had a few (2 or 3) small heads and maybe 3 large heads when I got the rock but now I can see maybe 100 heads (I don't know if that is what they are called but you know the part that moves in and out of the worm cassing). Is this normal? Is is something to worry about? Do you have to feed them? If it is a problem what can I do about it? Thanks for all your help. |
yes it is normal in a tank, and I never fed mine as they are filter feeders and I didn;t have any food small enuf..
Seriously though I have them all over and have never specificaly feed them. Steve |

But, really, they aren't a problem unless you think they are. What's beautiful to one person may not be to another. If you want to get rid of them, get a (small) wrasse of some kind. It'll eat 'em up fast. Our beautiful, but ever-hungry, yellow coris wrasse has done in all of our featherdusters in the 42 hex. Darn! |
I have 1000's as well. my sand bed is full of beige ones and my underside of my rock's are packed with small red ones.
When I had my Copperbanded butterfly for about 8 hours it did take care of some of them. Anyway they don't harm anything. |
I've got tons and tons of dusters everywhere in my tank. I wouldn't worry about it. I've got them growing on the rock, glass, even inside my skimmer!

okay well thanks everyone. I guess that it is nothing to worry about.
