enough flow??

just curious if I have enough flow? I have a Mag350 running my sump, and a Quiet one 3000 for a closed loop. The closed loop has 6 outlets at the top pointing down. Theres not alot of 'force' but I have turnover. Just wondering if I should get a Koralia 1 or something? Dont want to have too much force that the fishes have to allways be swimming strongly and never get a rest?

Personally, I would want more flow than that. If you add a Koralia, I would suggest a 2 or 3, not a 1. The 1's are rather weak.

How miuch is to much though? Like will the fish suffer if there is to much flow?

Myka 11-25-2008 02:29 AM

Not that kind of flow. Maybe if you had 1500x turnover and your fish were all nano-sized. Having said that, I've seen tanks over 1500x turnover and the fish didn't suffer. If the fish want out of the flow, they can always find a more peaceful corner, but generally they prefer the higher flow.

Based on the types of corals you are keeping (according to your signature) I would think that your closed loop would provied more than adequate flow. The Euphyllia family of corals prefers lower flow anyways so adding additional flow might result in a decrease in polyp extension.

just want tp make sure im stirring up all the detritus and not gettin settling deposits, which it looks like I am

My tank is all LPS. It's a 33g tank and I have a MaxiJet 1200, MJ400, and a Koralia 2. The Koralia 2 is rated much higher than the MJ1200, but the force of the MJ1200 is quite a bit stronger due to the impeller of the MJ compared to the propeller of the Koralia. I also have an AquaClear mini running carbon, and an MJ1200 running my skimmer. So I have much more flow than you do, and my LPS don't mind. My Euphyllias are in a lower flow area though.

OK, would 1 K-2 be enough, or 2 K-1's be better? there is a seller on ebay right now selling pairs. gawd, I ask soo many stupid questions

you could try a "gyre" Which is like directing your flow so it moves all the water in a whirlpool style pattern around the perimeter of the tank. I use it in my 55g tank with one Korallia 4

thx, thats kinda how it is right now I't a 1/4 round tank, so the flow scoots nicely across the curved front.
