Rip Tides 150 Gallon

Got back into saltwater earlier this year after a 10 year break
My youngest son had a freshwater setup for a couple of years and his enthusiasm in all things aquatic re-invigorated my interest in reef aquariums.
Technology, quality of equipment and definitely the selection of Calgary LFS have improved since my experiences in the mid 90’s.

I started again in Feb 08 with a 75 gallon and soon realized I needed a bigger tank to accommodate the corals and fish that are now available in Calgary and online. My son who had his eye of the 75 gallon convinced me to go bigger.

Thanks to Kevin and Doug at Red Coral for the construction of the tank/stand and the setup advice.

This is my son’s account of the 150 gallon build and other projects we may tackle together.

Really nice. Looking forward to hearing your impressions on the Master DOC skimmer. I have the Tunze 9015 skimmer but haven't been really impressed with the results. I hear great things on the Master Doc's.

Update

Filled the tank up with tapwater today to check for leaks found a couple around bulkheads. Going to let the pumps run for 24 hours. Then the fun begins and in goes the RO water, salt and rock.

Great looking tank. Saw it while it was sitting at Red Coral.

Been a while since I updated this thread, tank is doing well. Thought I would post some pictures that I took with a new camera (still trying to get the hang of it).
