Hours of light during tank cycling

I just want to ask how many hours of light a day I need during tank cycling.
I just have live rocks and live sand in the tank........
I am new to saltwater set up.

during the cycling period I do not turn on my lights, therefore eliminating/minimizing the possibility of a algae bloom.
