Will this stand be ok?
I recently purchased a 90g tank from a memeber on here. He was great to deal with, and everything was good until i got the tank home. Im not sure if this is a problem or not, but i just renovated my appartment and would be devistated if this tank were to fail and break a pain of glass or something.
The stand has about a 1/4" to 3/8" of a gap between the middle of the tank and the top of the stand, in the front and the back. All 4 corners look and feel solid, but i realize once this tanks fill thats a whole lot of water and weight. This is my second tank and i dont want to take chances here, so i thought i would try to some to some more experienced people and ask for advice. Should i not worry, the tank will be ok, or should i see if the seller is willing to maybe do something about the stand. I took a couple pictures, they are pretty poor quality, but like i said the top of the stand looks to be bowed down pretty even threwout the stand, something i didnt notice till i got the tank home and was cleaning it. I would toss a piece of insulating foam under it to help support it... you can pick it up at Home Depot or Rona for like $5..

Definitely do not put water in the tank as it sits in the photo or it will crack the tank. Maybe one could reinforce the stand from underneath and then put a foam layer on top of the stand. If it is bowing, foam will not hold it up but will assist with small corrections in flatness of the surface. Maybe shimming the stand in the center at the floor will correct the problem - unsure by photo. My opinion may change if I actually seen the stand in person.

You guys worry too much, I'd bet the value of the tank you won't have any issues as is, most of those store bought stands do the same and it will more than likely straighten out with water in the tank. It's only out by a couple mils.
I would agree with the foam but I also understand you may not want a layer of pink between the tank and stand. |
3/8" is more than a couple of mils

2nd that looks like an 1/8 max to me. Some thin rubber mat should take care of that if you are concerned about it.
