filter floss???
Hey guys,
I have heard of a lot of people using filter floss to trap particles in their filtration system, but I have never seen this product anywhere. I have looked at the local fish store, and checked online at JL Aquatics, but neither of them have it. Where can I buy this? |
J&L aquatics caries rolls of the stuff (buy the roll and you cut it to whatever size you want). Not expensive. you can also find it at walmart and such places but no guarantees there.
|
I use the stuff from the Wal-mart fabric section, it's basically the same stuff that they use in quilts, white cotton type stuff that usually comes in sheets that you can just cut to size.

Awesome, thanks guys.

Read the link below first:
http://reefcentral.com/forums/showth...readid=1478964 I looked into these things before I started using polyester floss from Walmart and found I had a difficult time determining the "purity" of the floss with any certainty. I ended up using it anyway and I've found that, for whatever reason, my SPS polyp extension was less when running the floss than it was just using open cell foam. |
And with such a large pore size, well what exactly does it remove?

I'm not entirely certain what the intent of your post was. I was providing insight into the potential pitfalls of using polyester fiber fill from an uncertain source. I actually use it in my overflow to get rid of the cascading water sound - not as a filter material per se but it obviously does filter some large particulate (the layout of my false wall negates the use of your typical Durso or Herbie overflow). The position of the open cell foam (previously polyester fiber) doesn't make any difference with respect to particulate returning to the display as it's placed in the baffle where my skimmer intake is and where detritus accumulates for easy removal. |
