Total Dynamic Head

Not sure exactly how much flow I am going to recieve outta this and wondering if someone could "decrypt" what this means please:D

If I use 3/4" id pvc, string it out approx. 3 ft up and into my tank, with a 100 gph pump, will that be enough to run my sump?
The return line is 62" and is going to be one similar to this.....

Thanks

How big is your tank? 100GPH minus your head loss doesn't seem like very much flow. Try out this calculator.

tank is 55g....

Here's the idea, what type of pump would I need? I don't plan on using any brand name pump....I just want to use a cheap ol' fountain pump or if I have to a pond pump. Pond pump I am looking at does 200-300 gph I think.....
I want to make this project as cheaply as possible:X
Head loss calculator says I need a Rio 600 = 67 GPH

guess it won't let me upload the schematic of the sump.....

FW right? You want to turn over you tank's total volume 5 times an hour so plan for more like 200 - 300 GPH after head loss is accounted for. This would take a pump rated for about 600 GPH, a RIO 1700+ should do it.

is your pump okay for SW?

Tigerarmy 07-18-2008 01:22 AM

Picked up a 515 gph pump, says it will spray 11' with minimal head loss, I guess we'll see...

11' with "minimal" head loss? Either whoever designed this pump should get a Nobel Prize or they're using a rather flexible definition of "minimal".
