Another Aquarium!

Since I let my tank thread go and never updated it out of laziness, I am just going to post pics here instead. Just a few for now. The tank is still pretty empty looking since all my huge, old corals and macro algae died during the move a few months ago. This tank is pretty much the same idea as the last though, lagoon inspired. But this time with mangroves! Which are in a bucket acclimating very slowly to saltwater. They are at about 1.008 as of yesterday.

Looks great GSP. My wife would love a boxfish tank, but I want a Porky :D
Hows those rubbermade totes work for sumps over time? No ill effects with the SW?

Looks great! I love the industrial look to your place!

Are the mangroves going to live in your display tank?

Thats actually a Burrfish. Boxfish get bigger and can release a toxin into the tank if stressed.

Rubbermaids have been fine. I have never seen any problems...

Yeah the mangroves will be up on the rocks, growing out of the tank. Just taking a long time to acclimate them. I have been given so much advice on how long it should be but a guy who grows them down in Florida told me it shouldn't take more than a few weeks, max 3. Others have told me 8! I tried going quite fast from freshwater to 1.008 and a week after the sudden jump, they have been fine and actually have grown a bit. Like anything, everyone has their opinions!

I really want to do a bunch of mangroves as well in my system, so reading about you and others doing it is super helpful.

They are pretty tough like any tree once they are established. I have not had very good luck with growing them from pods. They also take forever to start sprouting a nice amount of leaves in my experiences with them. I am very happy to have found some that are already over a foot tall with a decent root system already started. The roots have grown quite a bit already in the few weeks now that I have had them. Should just be a few more weeks until they are fully acclimated to the tanks water! I can't wait.
