lovely colour :)

Don't mean to bust your bubble but if that's suppose to be a true Cali Tort, yo've been had. Unless it's totally stressed or your photo isn't representing correctly, that there is A.formosa or A.yongei. The real thing is a deep purple/blue with a tint of green. Again no disrepect here.

Stressed . I have a frag of it and it has gone the correct colours

I'm so jealous. It's a Cali Torte alright. It will colour up in time. I think it was a little stressed.
I have a frag that is returning to the correct colour

I don't agree you've been had but I do agree that the coral in that picture doesn't look like a typical "tort". Jamie Cross is a reliable source and most certainly knows the difference between A.tortousa & A.formosa, A.yongei, etc but that is what is looks like in the photo. The piece you're showing is awfully pale and the coralites don't look like a tort as mentioned by Kaboom. Is it possible there was a mix up somehow or just a bizzare photo? Something is not right with that being a tort, but I can't see Jamie misrepresenting what he sold you. Either way it is a nice looking coral. Just for comparison, here is my "cali tort" I bought as a 1" frag from Jamie about two years ago, notice how the coralites are a much different shape. (sorry not trying to hi-jack your thread)

Still waiting for the Cali Tort I bought from Jamie 2 months ago to darken. I guess it takes a while. Others who've bought a frag from Jamie in the past have had them darken, so I'm confident mine will eventually look correct. Maybe I need to get a few more fish.

My 2 inch frag looks very similair to Snappy's but has a bit more green in it. It started out looking like Van Reefers.

As I said Jamie is a reliable source and knows his stuff. Since many corals look very different than even others from the same colony due to their surroundings (reticulate evolution) I would give that coral the benefit of the doubt and it will likely develop a more typical A.tortousa shape once it gets settled. It may have been in a low flow area or something. Mine took a long time to colour up as well and was a painfully slow grower the first year. After seeing this old picture of mine I think I would chalk the difference in the appearance of yours to reticulate evolution as stated above.
This is mine after one year.

Just for reference this is also a frag from the infamous Jamie Cross Cali Tort.
