Schoolyard wildlife

My kids school they had a cougar in the school grounds today. Needless to say, outdoor activities were cancelled for the day.

It gabe them something exciting to talk about

What part of Calgary?. We have a Coyote living off and on in our park across the street in the NW.

The school is between Okotoks and Calgary.

We live 2 blocks from Fish Creek and have had deer and a bear in front of the house.

Cougar, that's pretty wild. :surprise:

We've had coyotes in the alleyway for the last few winters now. They get pretty close when you have a dog with you.

Maybe she was just picking up her kiddies.

The city estimates there are between 400 and 900 coyotes living in the city. I do a lot of long distance running and see them all the time. They are not a threat to people but are to small animals off leash. One theory is our coyote population is the reason we don't have neighborhood stray cats in Calgary.

Porcupine attacks of dogs are about twice as common as coyote attacks.

I think it's likely the other way around. Porcupine's go out of their way to avoid trouble, but they do have a rather effective defensive mechanism!

There are cures for all the above animal problems. As long as they are being a problem.
