anemone on the run
I have heard of them just taking off but is it really that common? Since i added him to the tank he found a hole in the rock and has been there for the last three months. Now he is on the run. Wondering how long this will last because he is getting closer and closer to my hammer head and frogspawn.

It will move until it finds it's "happy place", then it will probably move again. LOL

Mine decided to go visiting the tank until he found the Tunze 6060, I wasn't home, it died, killed everything in the tank except the clowns and my lawnmower blenny  The clean-up was hell, there were bits of him everywhere! I had 75 gallons of murky grossness and the closer I got to the bottom, the more poor fish I found dead, on the casualty list were:
1 yellow tang, Sunny 1 Foxface, Foxy 1 fire goby, Alfalfa 2 Blue devil Damsels, Jack & Jill 1 coral Beauty angel, Coral My 2 clowns were in the top corner of the tank and gasping for air so I hurried up and scooped them out and popped them in a QT that was luckily set up. I found Mr. Chu the lawnmower blenny only when I moved a rock when the tank was almost empty. I had no idea I still had a live fish at that point cuz I had already taken out all my dead fish. He went in with the clowns for a few weeks while I re-set-up the tank..... Bla Bla Bla, my point is, keep a close eye on him  I vowed never to have an anemone again. That was almost 2 years ago. It's weird, I always hear about stories similar to mine but the nem always survives and nothing in the tank dies!?!? Is what happened to me a common occurence or was I just really unlucky? |
Same thing would have happened to me if I didn't have gutter guard blocking my powerhead. Not sure why they do that. I think they think the current is going to take them to a better place.
One of my current anemones has made it's home inches away from the outlet of one of my pumps. He loves it there, tons of flow and apparently the right amount of light. It hasn't moved in months. That doesn't mean it won't though. LOL |
I had a 12 inch RBTA decide to crawl into my Koralia 3. The only thing left was a small piece of flesh blowing out the powerhead. The rest was minced and in my skimmer. I thought the regular skimmate smelled bad! None of my livestock showed any signs of stress over its death though.
All my current BTA's don't wonder into the powerheads for some reason. They will wonder within inches of them, but not into them. I guess I'm lucky! |
If you have any exposed intakes...Put a sponge over them....

I had one head into a Koralia powerhead too. Pics in this thread if you care to take a look. He's recovered from that and looks pretty good now, although a lot smaller! I'll try to post new pics when I get a chance.

Wow what a great day for me.. After having him and the clowns in the tank for months they finally hosted:lol:. Maybe he will stay put now that he has them hosting. I had him in a medium current but he ended up in a high current. I guess he loves the flow.. Only bad thing is he ended up facing the back side of the tank .

My sebae anemone quit moving around once my clown fish started hosting in it. Now I have lost the clowns but a carribean crab has moved in and the anemone still shows no signs of moving. Have hope!

mine pretty much went 2 weeks straight before settling in a low light area, also if flow is strong they'll quickly shy away from a spot, at least IME
