Favites Feeding Frenzy

OK, not quite frenzied, but pretty cool nonetheless. My little pup caught a piece of mysis - never saw a polyp extend like this before, but I've only had the coral a few weeks.

And a closeup of the action:

A few minutes later, just looking happy and full:

Can you see which one it was? Yes, the plump one. :D

Thanks guys, your comments are encouraging! I feel a bit like a proud parent: "Look, it's learning to catch food!" :D

We said those very same words, Alan :) when the frogspawn frag we got at the last meeting 'learned' to eat small pieces of shrimp. Frag is growing like crazy BTW.

Rose, I assumed you meant "target feeding," which I've never tried before... today! :D Thanks for the push! I've always taken the line "this coral does not require direct feeding" to mean "I'm off the hook" - because I feed a fair amount (as far as I can tell). I just figured they were getting some out of the water column.

Well, they are more willing to eat than I figured - woops. I guess this is more of a frenzy now:

Hungry little pup!! I hope it's good now for a week or so!

OH, and you mentioned your Frogspawn frag - I've got one too, from the last meeting as well! So, of course that got some too, sprayed gently onto the polyps from the little syringe.

It seemed to get quite excited after that - look at all the chubbies:

Do you have a particular feeding method you find works best for you? I use the small syringe, which works OK, and use different pressures and spray 'patterns' for the coral I'm targeting. I would be interested to know what tricks people have come up with to get the best results, most efficient delivery of food, etc.

Perhaps in a new thread?...

Fantastic. More of those photo's. Thats terrific. What do you spray on them with your little syringe

Hey thanks George, great to hear someone's enjoying these! I've got a caulastrea that got a squirt too and was quite responsive, extending almost instantly:

I got a tip from 'delphinus' for shaving a frozen piece of mysis shrimp into a teaspoon of tank water, and mushing it up into a soupy consistency. It clogs the syringe a bit, but works all right. Then vary the "squirt pressure" and distance from coral to coral.

You can tell I have mainly LPS.
