Moving Aquariums

I'm about to get a 61 gallon reef aquarium, but I may need to move in about a year and a half. What would you guys recommend I do to ensure that my tank arrives safe and sound in my new home? Or should I just wait until after I move to get my aquarium?

Thanks,

Kyle

How far are you moving? I've moved a few tanks in my day and never had a problem, except lack of sleep. and annoyed friends :)

moving water is so fun you should get two tanks!

best way to prevent livestock from dying is to transfer it to a tank thats already running, i.e. if you have a separate tank running at your new house, or if thats not an option trying seeing if your lFS will house them for you temporarily.

Well I'm not to sure yet, hopefully just another house in the city. We have also been thinking about somewhere in BC. I wonder if I could just fly them to our new place if I have to.

Well, the answer is different based on whether you're moving local or distance. Local, I drain the water into jars, pick up the tank with all the rock, fish, etc in it and move it to the new place, then pour the water back in.
If you're going out of town, this won't work nearly as well :)
