Coral eating Tiger Cowrie
I have had two healthy plate corals in my tank for a long time now. Two days ago, my Tiger Cowrie decided to eat both, (they had been together for a year now). They are mostly consumed now, with the Cowrie on top of them. Is this invert reef safe, or was I kidding myself? He had loads of other choices of food. Any opinions?

I had one before and it would eat my gsp and leave big lines in my rock eating my Coraline algae.
I would take it out. |
I've had one for close to three years now with no problems so far.
On the side...I rarely see the guy. I often wonder if it's still around. I see him maybe twice a year or so. |

I think you just answered your own question. |
I had a tiger cowrie pretty much decimate my old zoanthid collection before I figured out who was responsible for the losses and then again before I was able to catch him out in the open and remove him.
Ironically enough, now he's in a tank where he could eat all the polyps he wants (rock infested with mushrooms, aiptasia and brown palys) ... he could eat them to his heart's content, but doesn't touch them. Apparently only expensive corals taste good. |
