Good or Bad?

I found this molt in my tank. I discribed it to a friend over the phone, and he said it sounds like a gorilla crab, and will be a fish-eater. Is that what it is? You can see from teh one pic that it's not very big right now.

Catch it and toss it into your sump, or kill it. Crabs with claws like that are generally not considered reef safe. Still a pretty cool find though.

Or catch him and if you dont want him at all...I will take him......I have an aquarium set up for just all things bad.....its quite the tank......and im in Edmonton this weekend for the boat show.....let me know..

Doesn't look like a Gorilla crab to me. I agree that you should try to catch it. Make a trap.

Not a gorilla crab, however it is bad. To the sump with it! Sorry, I can't endorse Crabby Heaven....

Gorilla Crabs are very hairy....so I would say to the sump with him....I had one similar looking to that and it ate a 4" powder blue overnight!!

Ate a 4" Powder Blue? How large was the presumed-guilty crab? The pictured crab can't be more than 1cm total size is not likely a fish killing threat at this time.

What would be the easiest way to trap this guy? A pop bottle or something?

Murminator 03-19-2008 04:13 PM

You can try that or a drinking glass lean up against the LR with some krill in it or something he will go in after it then can't climb back out or do what I do when you see the hole he is hidin in take tweezers of something sharp and ram it in the hole bunch of time usually takes care of them:mrgreen:
