Anyone care to share their experience with this wavemaker? Is it to good to be true for the price or is this the real deal?

Nice product, good value for the price. I've used them on a few tanks, and liked the flow quite a bit.

How about a name or link to the product that you are asking about. What does skwd mean?

I used these for about 6 years. They do wear out over time, but work as advertised and work very well for the money. They don't like sand, so be careful about that.

It's a nice little device for smaller tanks, but it does indeed gum up if you're not careful and you cannot take it apart to clean it.

Getting the hose clamps on tight enough to stop leaks was also a bit annoying (I really wished they went with threaded or some other type of connectors).

Lastly, be aware that it will cut down on your pump's head pressure by a noticeable amount.

Melev has a nice write up on his site about it being used as part of a closed-loop.

There are some very cool, "relatively simple", mods out there to make it easier to plumb them, increase flow through them and make them easier to clean.

The original Mod

An extremely simple Mod

A more complex Mod

A SCWD Mod for the larger tanks

I'm thinking of trying one of these in the near future.
