coralife aqualight pro fixture swap for pendant
 

I'm looking to replace my aqualight pro 150Wx1 with a sunlight supply lumenmax 3. The upgrade route would be first the coralife fixture (keep the ballast & starter & aquaconnect 150W bulb), then when the bulb dies, I replace the bulb and ballast for a 250W.

What I'm wondering is if I want to use the coralife parts with the sunlight supply pendant, how long of a wire run can I use going from the starter to the pendant? The coralife unit has the starter inside the fixture. Can I instead have the starter outside of the lumenmax fixture (down by the ballast) and use a long wire to the pendant (like the pfo ballast I owned a while back).
