Co2 tanks
 

Hey guys:

I'm pretty sure renting is better but opinions are what I'm posting for. I'm thinking about a 20lb. tank from Praxair or Air Liquid will do. How long does that last aprox?

Christy (christyf5) and I have been looking into this as we are both getting calcium reactor setups within a month or two.

What kind of maintenance is involved when owning your own Co2 tank?

I bought mine. Didn't know I could rent one, but I'd buy anyway. Cost me $100 for a 10 pound tank.

I guess it depends if you have the upfront money. I rented mine from Praxair for $14/month. I would have more than paid for it over the year. My 20lbs bottle running 3-4 bubbles/sec was still 1/2 full after a year.

Praxair quoted me a $55/year lease for the tank and $29 per fill.

Basically Jack and I are wondering about tank maintenance. Is it like propane tanks where there is an expiry date and past that they won't fill it so you have to get another one?? Are there any maintenance costs/inspection fees etc. when you own the tank?

No money down, I did have to sign a 1 year contract. They even delivered it to me :)

cool, they wanted a big deposit when I looked into it here.. for what it is worth, I bought mine used for 100.00 and that ioncluded a new valve, a pressure check and a fill.

when the date on the tank runs out it costs 35.00 here to get it receretified and a new valve put on.

You can get them in vancouver for about $100 with valve and the 5 year certification done.

Cost to refill is $20 for a 10# but you also have to take it in, Richmond.

Just watch if you buy a new one to ensure the certification is not a year or two old, happened to me on my first purchase.

I just purchased a system that the guy didnt own the co2 tank, came down $200 just for that reason.

Anything that has a strong demand, which co2 containers do, I would buy.

I bought mine a few years ago for about $100, and refills are $32, which includes exchanging it for a certified tank at the same time. I don't know how many lbs. it is, but it's really heavy!...lol...about 4 feet tall. Air Liquide here in Calgary.
