Live mysis
Anyone know where I could get live mysis? Want to stock a refugium with it to see if I can. (Going to use my BC14 and just let everything grow for a while)

Live Mysis
From what I have gathered on the web, unless someone privately is raising shrimp, Mysis or Brine there arent any in Canada. I think Reef Central did ,but it was too expensive for the sales they were getting. If you do find someone local, let me know. I prefer feeding live food when I get the chance.

I bought some a few years ago from someone out of california, it was stupid expensive and someone at either customs or the broker took 1/4 of the shrimp. They were shipped in 4 bags, the broker verified 4 bags of shrimp, when I went to pick them up the box was open for customs inspection/vet and there were only 3 bags, the broker said, dunno what happened sorry, sign here. I think Wendell sells grammarus(spelling) and they would be awesome for stocking a refugium, also put in a couple pair of either cleaner shrimp or peppermint shrimp the larvae make a lot of nice food for the main tank and who knows, maybe one or two will grow up.

I just found a web site yesterday that was selling them...almost crapped my pants when I saw the cost...it was like $125 for 50 shrimp...it was nuts.

What about raising brine shrimp?
I know they arent all that nutritious but cant you fatten them up with selcon and reef roids and that kind of stuff? |
The guy on nano-reef is selling them for 50 for $20 and then cheaper for larger numbers. Group buy?

If you have pods now. And your fuge is fish free your population will increase with time. Be patient.

I just brought an order in, but they are all spoken for. I can do another order for Edmonton and area if there is interest for any of the following:
Live Mysis; Live Amphipods; Live Rotifers; Live Shrimp PM if interested. |
Here's a place I have used a few times with great results
they have several different things available. http://www.reed-mariculture.com/ costs around 65.00 bucks for overnight shipping..but decent prices for larger numbers. HTH Neal |
