Advanced Ballast
I was talking to one of the guys today from J&L, and he told me that regular ballast couldn't handle the higher Kelvin bulbs. He said that I might have some problems with my ballasts and that ballasts like PFO are specially made to handle the high kelvin bulbs. Do I have anything to worry about? Is anyone else using an advance ballast? I am probably going to run a Ushio 10,000K bulb
Thanks,Greg |
The PFO case probably has an advance ballast inside. The 10k do best with a ballast with an ignitor, but a "regular" ballast will do fine.

older ballast
Hi Greg, my roomate just upgraded to a pfo ballast and two 10,000k's.
He originally had a phillips ballast with a single 6500. He was going to upgrade just the bulb, but the older phillips ballast would not fire the new 10,000k bulb. So he decided to go with a twin set instead, which lights up a 60gl beautifully. I don't think that some of the older ballast will fire the newer bulbs, as I have seen with my own eyes. Goodluck! Rich |
