Light advice

Hello

I am looking for advice and suggestions for a new tank i am setting up. Its a 230 gallon 72"x24"x30". I think i want to go with 400w halides with T5s. I want to keep sps eventually so i want to start off with them. I am in the process of building a canopy for the tank with fans in it. So they do not have to look pretty . Any advice would be appreciated and if you know where i can get them that would be great.

PM Kevin, "Zylumn"...he MAY have just what your looking for. 3- 400w halides that I think he still has. But dont quote me.

I have same size tank with 3 lumanarc shades which provide perfect coverage of a 30 inch width.I used to have 4 PFO pendants but the 3 lumanarcs created an even more broader light distribution than the other 4 put together

Advice;
They will skyrocket the temperature in your tank
i ended up tanking mine off until i get my tank in the basement set up,
Have tons of ventilation, or a chiller.

I have a the tank in my basement with a basement sump ( 4 level split) Tank is on 3rd floor sump is on the 4th floor. I also have a chiller and the sump is very large 150 gallons.

that sound like a great idea having the sump on the floor above.Your very adventurous

sump is below the tank lowest floor in the house

An enclosed canopy works great with our west coast climate, I vent outside it with an inline fan on a 3 speed switch; low in winter high in summer. Keeps our house dry, and mold free. It might not be so great in your cold climate though. I have three 400W halides in Lumenmax reflectors hanging inside, and I made it through last summer with only fans for cooling.
