good place in calgary for power tools?

I'm looking to start getting the power tools needed for working with acrylic and wood. I'm looking for medium quality stuff (in other words no powerfist brand stuff lol)

I eventually want to have a router, a table saw, and a miter saw and blades/bits needed for both wood and acrylic. probably a router first as that lets me do all sorts of stuff with acrylic.

what's a good place to get tools from in calgary? tom's house of tools? home depot? what are your peoples' thoughts?

Check out www.toolmonger.com. Listing of tool retailers there. You can get a lot of the smaller handtools from online vendors at a fraction of the cost of what you'd pay here.

BarginFinder or BuyandSell, cruise HD for their sale packages, Costco is carrying Dewalt.

And for your router, get a good table specially one with insert with tight clearance around bits and can take guide pins would probably help.

saw a few good leads in the bargain finder. what thickness of acrylic can be cut with a 1.5hp router? bosch...

Add BusyBee to the list of places for local tool shopping. Maybe not for a router but definately for a router table.

A 1.5hp router sounds pretty small. I would look for 2-1/4 to 3+hp.

I'd also recommend a large 3 hp router. Especially when you are going to use it in a table. Gives more options on what size and shaped bits you can use. A smaller router, like a laminate trimmer is also handy for small jobs. Routers are kinda like tanks, they multipy if left unattended, lol.

I was in the tool industry for several years..
If you like good stuff stick with General for a table saw. They make a wicked 2 hp cabinate saw now. As for the router Hitachi v12 is ready for a table install both units have great dust collection. With the saw General makes one of the best fences you will find. For those who like the unifence by delta run your hands in that cheep alloy rail they give you and ask yourself how accurate is it now all chewed out. You can also get a cast insert for your router that mounts into most table saws. Just buy the canwood one at house of tools.
