120gal Opti-white

Finally my new tank has arrived. This new tank has a dual external overflow system with a custom 80gal sump/refugium. The display tank was built with Opti-white glass which is supposed to be clearer than some Starphire (some starphire tends to have a slightly blue tinge)As a return pump I ended up chosing a Sequence Reeflo Dart. Powerheads consist of two Tunze Nanostream 6045s (keeping my fingers crossed on the powerheads because there is so much confusing feedback regarding quality and problems on all products...everyone has a different opinion or experiance. So here's the first of my pictures. I'll keep updating with progress

Dart

Thanks to Mark for letting me check out Dart pump before picking out mine. Managed to get most of my plumbing done yesterday so I ran the pump into an overflow and back into the sump. This pump sure is quiet.

Tanks look so nice when they are brand new!

I like the overflows, how are you going to set them up?

overflows

Well each overflow has a hole for a 1+1/2" drain and a 1" return so I was considering a durso overflow set up in each. Are there any other available options?

Nice tank.

For single hole there's Stockman and if want to drill another hole drain in each overflow look into a Herbie

Herbie overflow, baby. Got one setup up on my external box and have never looked back. As long as you have two holes in a box you're good to go.

overflows

Thanks for the follow up. pretty neat tank of untamed. I'm thinking I'm gonna remove one of my 1'' return lines and use the bulkhead for the emergency drain. I originally set up the drains as dursos but with them being external it seems to make them much noisier. I tried them as Herbies too and they sure are quiet. I think my pump probably flows about 2300gph @ 6ft of head so with fitting losses I'm thinking it's putting out about ...2000ghp? the only way I would have to worry about the 1'' emergency drain not being big enough would be if the other drains completely plugged right?

Try it the other way around first....Use the 1" for the main flow, and the 1.5" for the emergency. You'll need to choke back the flow on the primary Herbie lines anyway...you might only need 1" lines.

If the 1" lines can't carry 100% of the flow, then using them as the emergency lines means there is a small risk of overflow should BOTH the primary 1.5" lines become 100% blocked. (Really, a pretty small risk)

I also have a single Dart as the return pump and two overflow boxes. In my case, both the primary and emergency lines are 1.5"..but the primarys are choked off by gate valves so there is a chance that 1" lines would have worked.
