new lights
I picked up a T5 fixture on the weekend so I could add some actinics into the mix. Here is a shot from this morning with just the T5's and the 150w 20k mh's. Unfortunately my camera just can't seem to get the colours to pop the way they do with the naked eye in this lighting, things look browner than they actually are.

I like the look! I find the colors are very sharp and distinct in the second photo. Do you like it so far?

pretty nice tank!

How's the tank though with the main lights on with the actinics?
I've been trying to sell myself for a while on replacing my daylight and actinic NO fluorescents that I use for dawn/dusk with a T5 actinics/daylight mix to get the "POP" but concerned that either everything will be too purple with the mains on and with them off it will be the black-light and poster look of the 70's. |
It looks better with the 10k 250 w's but I just thought I'd showthe way it looks with the low wattage lights.

Which T5 bulbs are you using? Its just so much sharper looking then my PCs, I may want to switch over!

Have you tried adjusting your white balance? I'm also interested in what bulbs your t'5s are.

most d-cameras have a hard time with actinics. they are just not build to be looking at that blue of a colour temp. The software in all Cameras is based on 6500K and that is the ideal lighting. Actinics are just to far from that.
That being said man that's a sweet system regardless of the colour J |
I think it looks great, Greg. Are you running any of the Korallen Zucht Fiji Purple bulbs? I replaced one of my actinics with one of those, and *POW*!

Thanks for the compliments.
