pest crab

I have a crab that has been eating my zoos. He has devoured this colony

and as well has carted off 3 seperate frag plugs of zoos into his den. He is too big for a bottle trap and very smart, I have caught him twice but it shook loose so now he has no front claws as that is all I was able to hang on to.
Any ideas? He is too smart to skewer, he seems to have a path system through the rockwork so he very seldom exposes himself. I need to get that rotten bugger. He is costing me a fortune in zoos, hermits & snails.

i'm following this one buddy because i have the same problem. and i have had him on tweezers twice and he ripped away. thank god he hasnt killed anything but loves to rearrange corals

I had one doing the same thing but I was able to skewer him. I figure I got lucky for getting him but he did put a dent in the zoos I had at the time. Don't have any ideas though for this instance sorry. Good luck Chris

Do you know which rock he calls home? and can you remove the rock from the tank?

Snappy 10-18-2007 03:05 AM

Yes but it impacts about 30 corals so it is a big hassle

What about a large baited jar propped up near his den?

I was going to say that or a glass with some food in it. Tilt it on it's side and push the bottom into the sand so it's on a very slight angle.

Yeah, a tilted bottle is probably the best bet. Once he slides in he'll have a hard time climbing out.

I dunno, maybe you can get lucky, one night I came down around 1am, 2am and saw a big bugger snoozing right up against the glass. I grabbed my net and was able to catch him. After about 6 months of futility with traps and bottles.

Maybe I'll use some zoos as bait so the shrimp don't steal it all. Thanks for the ideas.
