Aquarium Software Feature List

Hello,

Just wondering if anyone has a wish list for a computer program for use in this hobby. Anything, please shoot.

Something that will do water changes on a schedule? Ok, I'm asking a lot, but... :)
Watcha making, boss? CanManage v1.0?

I use excel right now and I really wish that I could graph all my parameters over time, but it doesn't do that...and it sucks...

Are you making something?

Hello,

Well I'm just feeling a bit itchy with my fingers for making a Windows app. Unfortunately I don't believe it'd be smart enough to do a water change  . As for the Excel, it surely should be able to graph.

But are there a lot of people actually logging their parameters over time on their computer?

I currently log my parameters on paper...but would probably do it on a program if it were easy to use and effective!

I use a pen and a notepad right now :( But if there was something available for my Mac I would use it. So far I've kept track of just about everthing to do with the tank. Water changes, filter media changes, parameters, supplement addition, fish/coral additions and deaths etc...

I started using some freeware logging years ago when I set up my first tank that was like a Excel workbook with tabs for parameters, comments etc. Entry was by a pop up and depending on tab, had fields for date/time, buttons for good/bad, measured valves, comments etc. Simple, worked good.

I'm continuing using the comment portion for tracking events such as purchases, adding carbon etc, but abandon the chemistry portion to writing in a log from a table printed from Excel, since the software doesn't have the flexibility to change or add fields. Example, when I started with a FOWLR I recorded in the box for NH3, now as I progressed more interested in tracking effluent pH, bubble count type stuff and not NH3 but I can't modify the table the software uses.

So if doing logging software, basically trying to say one can't imagine everything what someone else might want, so give the user the ability to tailor.

Doesn't reefkeeper2 data log?

The RK2 does logging as do many others (see comparison chart here) but most either can't or be to costly to measure what a lot of us want to record.

Titus, again if creating logging software, ability to interface with some of the popular controllers?

I just log it all in excel on my mac...and then ocassionally I review it.

Excel and I aren't very good friends, so the graph thing doesn't work well when I ask it to make me pretty lines on a time graph...
