Bracing Help

I just purchased a 225 gallon that is in need of some TLC.

The plastic cross braces (2) are both broken and the plastic tank frame is cracked.

I plan to remove the plastic trim and broken braces altogether. When I add glass bracing (Euro and cross) can I just silicone these pieces on top of the side panels rather than inside?

Are there any clear advantages or disadvantages to one method or the other?

Please help. This is the first time I have undertaken a project like this.

I don't know the answer to your question but I CAN tell you that my professionally built tank is eurobraced and the bracing is on the top, not inside. However my tank is a 38 gallon (hardly a 225) so take all this with a grain of salt.
