Lowering Alk.?
 
Can someone give me some proven methods to lower my alk from 9 to 7 on an ELOS test kit.
Thanks for the help I love this site:)
Oh and I already turned off my Calcium reactor and it hasn't made a difference

Why do you want to lower it? 9dkh is my ideal that I try and shoot for.

I'm running Zeovit and my Alk should be at 7 or 8 tops for it to work well:biggrin:

Water changes are really the only way top lower ALK fast. Other wise you could just wait until it lowers itself naturally.

Leave your Calcium reactor off and dose a calcium chloride additive. Reef systems use both calcium and carbonates. If one is limited, consumption of the other will fall off. By supplying calcium your tank can then use the existing carbonates and alk will drop.

What is your CA at ? If its low you'll have to bring it up and your Alk will shift down.
