Bow down to the awesomeness
We all know (and love) my local tank:biggrin: . A few weeks ago when I was away a breaker blew and all the equipment turned off on it. Needless to say everything died except for my flounder. So I spent the next little while "perfecting" the rock work and it still looks pretty much the same to me though. Execpt for the caves I have kinda created. And now I have just got back from our Lodge and I went diving there 3 times. I caught a few cool things but all the dives were quite ummmmm interesting. Anywho now onto the new and improved tank.
http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c2...277/grunt9.jpg This here is a Black eyed goby and I have two of them. They are really cool and one is missing an eye. I think one is male and one female becuse they seem to be buddies. http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c2...277/grunt8.jpg When I was up there I couldn't resist having a prawn in my tank. http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c2.../grunt1001.jpg I also grabbed a Squat Lobster from the prawn trap. http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c2...277/grunt7.jpg Here is a graceful kelp crab. Looks really cool eh? http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c2...277/grunt6.jpg This picture doesn't really have point its just got lots of stuff in it. I have 6 swimming scallops in the tank. http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c2...277/grunt5.jpg This right here is one of the coolest things in my aquarium. Its a Puget sound King crab. I saw it when it was tumbling down a slope. http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c2...277/grunt4.jpg Cool coloured urchin. http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c2...277/grunt3.jpg Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm... scallops and bacon..................... http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c2...277/grunt2.jpg The pride and joy of the tank. A grunt sculpin. I had a heck of a time getting this guy out of his home till he just made a break for it but I snatched him out of the water. http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c2...277/grunt1.jpg Close up. They are soo cool. When diving I saw 3 more but my buddy didn't want to wait for me to try for them. I need a buddy who is looking for collection to. *hint*hint* All in all though it was wicked and the fishing was great. I found an octopus den with a huge one in it and was to nervous to try and poke it out:surprise: Matt EDITED: I just threw them all in so tomorrow I will try and get some better pictures. |
Wow, that sculpin is SO cool looking. I've never heard anything about them. Can you tell us more?
Good call on not going after the octopus. *nervous* :) |
Love It.

WOW! that sculpin is so awsome! How do you keep the tank cooled? do you run a chiller?
|
Saw your other threads. How do you deal with condensation?
It seems like you have had a lot of different things in the tank. Do the fish not last long? |

matt, man that sucks to lose the previous tank. but the new livestock is sweeeeet! grunts are one of my favourite all time fish (after spiny lumpsuckers). and puget sound crabs are my favourite on the plate or in a tank! might want to keep an eye on that guy though... king crabs can be pretty... um, predacious. especially if they are large.
i can tell a bit about grunts. notice their pointed, angular noses. and then note their fin rays which are bright orange. grunts will mostly sit inside dead giant barnacles with either their head or caudal fin sticking out. head out, they mimic a closed barnacle, tail out they mimic a barnacle with its feeding feathery apparatus thingy. they are a popular public aquarium species as they are pretty, hardy and are captive bred a lot (at the vancouver aquarium). they also ship long distances well. hey how about a new fts? |
you need a ratfish :) they are one of my fave... although might be a little big for your tank.....if your able to get over to hornby island go to sandpiper beach...
there are some amazing cold water reefs there.. and some amazing colored fish :) |
Ya Lumpsuckers are pretty wicked. The Puget sound crab is about the size of my thumbnail right now. You know how fast they grow?
http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c2...77/zzzz001.jpg http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c2...77/zzzz003.jpg I almost forgot to tell you about this one. Is it a butterfly crab or helmet crab? They look the same to me... http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c2...77/zzzz006.jpg Another of the Grunt Sculpin. It needs a cool name. http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c2...77/zzzz010.jpg Here is the full tank shot. I apologize for the bad focus but after almost 30 pictures this was the clearest one. Matt |
