SPS troubles

I seem to be having a big problem with my SPS tank.
Is it possible to have too much light? I have a 72 gallon bow front with 2 250 MH lamps. Corals around the back of the tank look fine...anything directly beneath the lights seem to be losing the tissue off the tips...then it keeps spreading.
Anyone got any ideas.

Yes, your bleaching them. Move them to much lower light conditions until they color up, that is if there not to far gone.

whats a safe distance for having the lights above the water?
right now they are about 8 inches up

did you just buy these and put them under these lights form a lower lit tank? I ran 2 x 400w 10k on my 75g forever without issues. So essentially, no, you can't have too much light, but the corals could be used to lower levels and then you could be bleaching them.

the lights are at a fine level, however the corals need to be acclimated to the amount of light you're giving them as they may not have received that much light from wherever you got them. A good rule of thumb is to place them at the bottom of the tank to start and then acclimate them higher later on (say a few days later or so).
