Technology - Make way for the Skycar

Good news for all those people waiting for the hover car to arrive: California-based Moller International is now taking deposits on vehicles that will apparently go on sale within a few months. And the price isn't too bad, assuming you happen to have at least 24 friends who are equally keen on the new form of locomotion: the M400 Skycar goes for $995,000 US for orders of 25, and as low as $500,000 for orders of 100 or more.

I think the CBC got it wrong [gasp!]... order POSITION will determine the price. Early buyers will pay more, and later buyers will benefit from economies of scale. You don't have to buy 100 of them to get the lower price, just be patient. On their current production rate, you should only have to wait until 2200 or so to get one for the lowest published price.

Wasn't this company sued or something for claiming they had a flying car a few years back?

yes, I think they had to pay $55G's USD for not having the machine ready in time previously promised.

The cool thing is that they have a Causer shape smaller version of it for less then $100G.
No need for pilot's license, because it will only fly up to 9 feet high. (not that it can’t fly higher , just restricted to get it legal without license).
You can land on any surface including water, 150 km/h speed, and range about 100 kms.
I could be wrong on all of the above figures but what I also herd was that company stock went up 3 times after a smaller craft announcement.
They also make fast Sea-doo’s (Jet-Skis) with rotary engines.

i dont get what you could do with it. i doubt it could turn on a dime or even a reasonable radius so driving in every day traffic would be out of the question. so what do you do with hovering car? take it off road?

Yah, you are right driving it isn’t fun, but flying 500m/hr is !
i think it's designed to drive only to a takeoff spot and then fly away.
The smaller one is recreational only.

This could be problematic seeing as how so many of the people on the roads in Calgary can't drive worth s%!#.

LOL
That's why this guy made it all auto, drunken grandma could fly it.

i agree with moogled, but i cant argue against the lower mainland drivers either, if theres snow on the ground it means you have to go SLOWER and SLOW down SOONER. A half million people staying home because of 2 inches of snow cant be wrong!! It snowed here thursday morning (not kidding) im in central BC, if it was Van the whole place would have collapsed!! LOL
