Powerhead recomendations. VORTECH?
My Tunze recently seized and I can feel an electris shock on the wire when it is wet, so I am going to change things up.
I am thinking about getting 2 Vortechs. Does anyone have them? I have also heard good things about the Tunze Nano pumps. Opinions would be appreciated. Thanks |

Hmmm
Are these realy that good Albert? Does 1200 GPH seem a little low for my tank? I would need like 4 of them right? |
the hydor korilla's are also great pumps.
|
They might be working on a new one with larger volumes.
|
personally had nothing but bad luck witht he vortech's and after 3 strikes in 2 months i got my money back. keep in mind they're not directional at all so it sort of limits where you can aim your stream with them.
|
I really like the Hydors I have two #4's in my 90 and they work great. I have yet to even clean them once in 4 months and have had no issues, unlike the seios that would crap out after a couple weeks of use.
|
My problem is that my tank is a Bare Bottom 240 Gallon and 1200 GPH is not very much.
With a bare bottom tank, I have the opportunity to REALLY push the flow. I also like the fact the the Vortechs motor is outside of the tank for heat and electrical reasons.... |
Hydors for sure.. cheap, silent, and have given me no problems.
|
Why not go back to some new Tunzes? With a BB 240 you're open to a ton of flow.
The Vortechs are nice but as someone mentioned they can't be aimed. There's a new controller out, but I haven't seen any reviews. If the Vortech's initial teething difficulties are anything to go by (see fishface's experience), I'd wait a bit to see if any problems come with the first batch of Vortech controllers. |
