New Tank
I'm getting a new tank after my old one had crashed and I unloaded it for various reasons. Now I have some live rock sitting in vats of salt water with airstones running and I have some of my surviving coral and inverts sitting in the sump. I'm thinking rather than wait for 2 days for the tank to fill up with RO/DI water I could risk it and fill up the tank quickly with tap water (dechlorinated of course) instead. In subsequent water changes I'd use RO/DI water. I'm however concerned about phosphates and other poisons in the water. Should I risk it?

Lots of people have done this. While not ideal, I don't think it'll be a catastrophe.

I think you are better off going to Culligan (Safeway,Walmart, etc) and paying the deposits and filling charges to get the 5 gallon jugs of RO water. Then once you are done, just return the bottles back for your deposit!
Simple and it at least you know you arent risking anything! Steve |
