What type of seahorses are they? Are they captive bred?

Got it, they're Hippocampus taeniopterus, also known as the Asian Emperor Seahorse, or the Common Seahorse (not to be confused with H. kuda, which is also called the Common Seahorse).

Just thought I would share a photo of my seahorses from Golds.
These three started out mostly black like all the others in the upper tank.
The color on seahorses have a lot to do with your lighting and choice of backgrounds and tank decorations.
Conversely, I have seen very bright and colorful seahorses fade ou tto black in some tanks, imagine bringing home a beautiful red or yellow horse just to watch it faded out once you get it home.

It took about 3 days for the seahorses to adapt to the new tank and start changing colors. They also change colors while breeding and when stressed. Being such a slow moving fish - their primary defense is camoflage - so it makes sense the more colorful the display the more colorful the seahorses.

I also noticed this way back when I had dwarf seahorses. They were all white when I bought them - within two weeks I only had 2 wjite ones left, the rest were greens, yellows and shades of brown/red.
