euro reef using over flow to feed

Well I have my euro reef skimmer with the dual sp'3 and I have a hgen 800 feeding it I find that im getting alot of crab in the sump. so im always cleaning it when i get a chance. I was thinking of feeding my skimmer with the overflow tube. I have a 65 gal tank with a 700gph for a return and since my skimmer is getting fed with 350 -400 gph I'm thinking of just cranking up tha flow to the skimmer.

But the input of the skimmer is 1/2" and the pipe is 1" its the crinkled flex hose. Would it make a big difference if I connect the over flow line to the skimmer where the hose is 1" and the input is 1/2" along with that the union that i have there is 1/2" too..

any thoughts

notice where the skimmer got cracked for modding i added an 1/4 " of acrylic works good thou

As I mentioned mike, I think running your overflow to the skimmer only would restrict the flow and could at sometime cause a tank overflow? How about adding a "T" to it and feeding part raw water to the skimmer and the rest to the sump.

You could just use the sump exit part, as a back up/overflow port and the bulk could go to the skimmer. Some detritous would still get to the sump, as it would passing through the skimmer anyways but at least it would be raw water.

Just a thought anywho, as I have never done that, owning only large becketts with their honkin pumps. :D
