what have you done to your reef tank that you are proud of?
my first DIY - the modded maxijet was actually successful. I was so proud. All it really involved was sawing off the outflow tube and putting it on a wavemaker. I couldn't believe it worked (murphy usually works against me in cases such as these).
I also put a gate valve mod on my Euroreef. I was pretty impressed with myself for awhile after that but still reluctant to cut off all the needles on my needlewheel impeller to do the mesh mod  Ok, now Marc will come in here and blow us all away  |
I built my 120g tank and it's held water ever since. my largest tank I built before that was a 30g

built my own stand.
but the next one will be so much better. |
The wiring I did in the tank room, now its covered by drywall and no one can see it.
|
for me - the sump. I had some help, but I put the most of it together all in the end... set up the plenum and the skimmer, organized the flow (and got some stuff wrong ;))

I equipped my cleaner shrimp with an AK-47 and a nuclear-class submarine.
He is now the bad-ass Rambo on both Live Rock and in water. Nothing touches him. Recognize! |
Being that I am an accountant with very limited tool skills. I am proud to say I made my own stands and my best achievement has been my water top off system.

I built my own corner tank, sump, atnd and lid!
I was studying for my HNC in Electronic engineering, and the company I worked for wouldn't let me do my project on their technology (Trade secrets etc....) so I PLC controlled my tank instead! pH, Salinity, dissolved oxygen, water levels, temperature, water leak detector and even a power-outage alarm! OH eventually wanted to redecorate and the stone-effect paint didn't match, so she told me to get a new tank! So I opted for the bow-front corner tank, drilled it, took out the centre bar of the frame, re-enforced it and sumped the tank! Tank is now in storage awaiting shipping to BC! Jeez! I miss my tank! Kenny ps. I use relays now! Sold the plc on Ebay to fund my salt addiction! lol |
With the help of TomR, I plumbed my own tanks which is cool considering I've been keeping fish for decades & used to always love the KISS tanks without sumps or the required plumbing.
I've also been very pleased with my aquascaping efforts. Anthony |
Nothing currently. But still proud of my former tank, that was featured on RC. Shut it down when I moved and have not been able to come close since.
FWIW, I have never been much good at woodwork and am impressed by some of the outstanding stands & canopies you guys build. |
