New Vendor in Vancouver

Hello,

Just saw a new retail store in Richmond on No 3 Road across Canadian Tire. I think it's called Aquafanatics. Didn't go in 'cause I just drove by.

I also saw an ad for ocean aquatics in Delta. They're into breeding clownfish and selling frags. It says in the ad that they're open on sundays from 10-2.
I'll have to check both places out the next time I'm over :)

Hehe... Ocean Aquatics is Wendell's (zulu_principle) store, and yes he has several breeding pairs of clowns. He also has some great frag tanks, definitely worth a visit.

Aquafinatics in Richmond

FWIW and FYI - I went into Aquafinatics this afternoon and it very much reminded me of JL when they were just starting out. They have been opened for about 3 or 4 days. The layout is also similar to JL with one side of dry good and another side of tanks. The dry good side is similar (actually a bit bigger) in size to JL but selection is primarily freshwater items. The tank side is definitely a lot bigger BUT they only have one wall of tanks for marine fish like JL and about four aisles for freshwater. Their corals section seems like they will be smaller than JL's and that section is still under construction so I won't know until its all done. They do have a very impressive 12' display tank but they also have about 6-8 different large Angels in there. They all seem to be cohabitating peacefully for the time being and when I asked one of the employees about having so many angels in one tank, he indicated he has about just as many in his 200 gal setup at home  . And he said they are also getting along well.
They have a few different size spray induction skimmers for sale which looked like they were built very well but were obviously made locally and confirmed when I asked the owner. I saw these skimmers in action and looked like they were brewing up quite the storm of bubbles. The midsize model was going for about $450 +/- $25 ( I can't remember exactly)
Their buckets of salt are the same prices as JL ($59 for Kent and Instant Ocean). When I asked them for a quote on their mag 24, they were asking for 250 and JL is asking for 229. Their prices of their fishes are cheaper though. They have an adult Emperor for $85, firefish for $15 and purple firefish gobies for $30.
I'm not sure how much competition Aquafinatics will give to JL but there is definitely potential. JL definitely has the edge in terms of the dry good specific to marine/reef tanks. Consider going down to take a look in about 2-4 weeks when they have more tanks set up. But since I work in Richmond, I will probably be visiting on a regular basis. Maybe I'll see some of you in there. Take care

I'd be more worried about Petcetera and Big Al's just down the street! Hey maybe it'll start a nice little price war between them 8)
