I bought one on boxing day and today it broke. The front end came off with a spring attachment that was inside. The spring was partially rusted and I proceeded to take the handle assembly off. Everything inside was rusted through and the cable end that was attached to the spring in the front was rusted through. I don't think this item was made for saltwater since everthing inside was metal. I'm going to see if I can fix this with nylon or inert parts.

i bought this thing about a month ago and it sucks. very awkward to use and it leaks water for about a half hour after it comes out of the tank. after your findings i think this will be used for picking up garbage outside. my wife got me a set of plastic salad tongs from a dollar store and they rock. way better than these thing and a hell of a lot cheaper
