DIY battery backup
In Edmonton, Cdn Tire is selling 1000W inverters for 50% off ($75 plus tax).

Isn't an inverter plugged into a car cigarette lighter or a car battery though? You'd need a battery charger running to keep the battery topped up for anything longer than an hour or two, depending on the battery. I don't remember my electronics though so I may be out to lunch but a battery back up and an inverter are two different things if I'm not mistaken.

Hence the DIY qualifier.
A complete assembly would include a battery, charger and inverter. With a RV battery (commonly around a 100 amp-hours) I would expect I could run my Iwaki 70RLT about 5 hours without charging. I bought the unit for my trailer and 1000w is probably overkill for a tank, just that 75 bucks is an excellent price. |
Thanks mark, I've been waiting for them to go on sale. They had the 1200w motomaster one on before xmas but I missed it. This looks like an even better deal. I've got the marine deep cycle battery and the charger. All I need now is the inverter and to wire up a transfer switch.
