This a problem ??
my tank is 5 weeks old .. i went through a brown algae stage which cleaned up nice . just like you all said :biggrin: .now a new thing has showing up http://img123.imageshack.us/my.php?image=pink7st.jpg any feed back on this pink stuff would be great .. ty

its pretty blurry, but if the red stuff is slimy then i would say it is cyano bacteria. there is different things that cause this. increasing flow for me has always worked. i found that it will build in low flow areas. sometimes old lighting will cause it but if your tank is only 5 weeks old then i would say it is not the problem.

IME, it is high nutrients that cause cyanobacteria. Using carbon along with other nutrient absorbing filtration media(like phosphate remover) will help, as will testing your nitrate levels and doing small frequent waterchages as neccesary.
Sometimes also, cyano is a stage that quickly passes as other living organisms in your tank outcompete it for nutrients, stuff like macro algae, microalgae, even corals. HTH a bit. |
