Things we take for granted
 

I thought that it would be a good idea to start a thread where people post information about things that they assume everyone else knows.
this way, we can pass on information to those who might not know.
there are is alot of knowledge within the members of canreef and to me this is what it is all about..sharing info.
It can be anything..
As an exapmle, everyone might want to know that you can get unseasoned sushi wrap..aka..dried algae at superstore for like 3.50 for 20 sheets...which is much much better than the 1.00 or so a sheet that a lot of the pet stores like to charge. It is in the oriental section.
I have been feeding it to my tanks for well over 6 months with no known ill effects.
if anyone know different about this please let me know cause unless otherwise told, I am going to continue to save myself money and feed my fish sushi wrap verses dried algae.
so yea, get in the christmas spirit and give those little-known or well-known secrets away.

Im pretty sure I bought those sushi wraps at the chinese supermarket in downtown lucky 97 i think its called for like 1.50 just in case any one was looking. Also you can get a large bag of sea food medley there for 2.00. I made two bags worth of homemade food(squid, shrimp, clams, octopus, and someother stuff in the bag) Ive been using it for 2 months now and havent even used up the first bag. Pretty good value I think. My fish love it.

I get my Sushi wrap from Fujia & the seafood mix & T&T superstore.

I have some in my cupboard. It is "roasted" but not flavoured. Would that be ok?

The brand is Yakinori "Silver"

Some people may not know about the two part Alk buffer that you can make at home from Baking soda. It cheep and it works.

So...dont keep me in suspense..The recipe

roasted is fine, in fact, I think they are all roasted.
just check the ingredients to make sure nothing has been added

I was out for 15 hours and it was a stressful hell worrying about the tank. Couldn't imagine being one of those unlucky people that were out longer, I feel for them.

You can also save money on refugium lighting by getting a clip-on lamp with a CFL 6500k Phillips Daylight bulb or an old-fashioned incandescent lighting unit, rather than getting more expensive PC or aquarium lighting.

Grows chaeto & other macro very well.

Bake 1 box of baking soda at 300 degrees for an hour. This burns off 1 carbon atom creating a carbonate instead of a bi-carbonate. The result is that it raises PH where regular baking soda lowers it. You can now add 1 parts washing soda as it is now called, to 6 parts baking soda for a completely neutral 2 part ALK (carbonate hardness) buffer. Adjust your ratio accordingly to either raise or lower your Ph a bit.

Its that easy.
